The first of its kind - new Master’s degree programme with an emphasis on leadership within emergency and primary care

Published: 28.10.2024 / Press release

Arcada University of Applied Sciences and LAB University of Applied Sciences are launching a joint English-language Master's programme in emergency and primary Care. The programme, Master of Social and Health Care, Emergency Care Systems Development and Leadership, is the first of its kind, and offers healthcare professionals worldwide the opportunity to study fully online.

The new programme, which will open for applications in January 2025, focuses on strengthening leadership and systems skills in primary and emergency care – areas where the industry is facing major challenges globally. Students will be given the tools to meet these challenges through systems thinking and sustainable work management, which are central to developing robust and sustainable healthcare systems.

‘It is important that today's care systems are developed with staff wellbeing in mind. Tackling these challenges requires strong systems thinking and sustainable leadership tools,’ says Christoffer Ericsson, Senior Lecturer in Emergency Care at Arcada.

A unique opportunity for global networking

The programme is specifically designed for all professionals who may be involved in emergency care, such as paramedics, nurses, social workers and physiotherapists. As the studies are fully online, it is possible for students to combine their studies with work. This also enables interdisciplinary and international collaboration.

‘This programme offers something completely new in emergency care, and at the same time offers professionals working in Finland the opportunity to expand their knowledge. By bringing together students from different countries and professions, we create a shared learning environment where knowledge exchange goes both ways,’ says Anu Venesoja, Principal Lecturer in Emergency Care at LAB University of Applied Sciences.

Applications to the programme will be made in in January 2025. Read more about the programme on our website.
