As of autumn 2021, the possibilities for integration in Swedish in the Greater Helsinki area improve, when the People’s academy Borgå folkakademi starts cooperating with Arcada, Prakticum och Arbis.
The transition from language education to vocational education and later on into working life will get easier for those who are integrated in Swedish. Starting this August, Borgå folkakademi will offer integration training in Helsinki.
- Since the 90s, Borgå folkakademi has arranged integration education in Swedish and the demand is increasing. Currently we can’t admit everyone who wishes to study Swedish, says Catharina von Schoultz, rector and CEO of Borgå folkakademi.
The report on Swedish-language education in Finland published by the Ministry of Education and Culture this Spring asked for more integration opportunities in Swedish.
The focus will be on developing new paths for studies and work in Swedish. In the beginning, the education will be offered to people not having Swedish as their mother tongue.
Smooth transitions for the students
The education will be arranged in Arcada’s facilities in Arabianranta.
- We are pleased to welcome Borgå folkakademi to our campus, says Mona Forsskåhl, rector of Arcada. Together we can create strong Swedish-language environments in this area and offer flexible paths for integration. In combination with the new career center, this collaboration is an important addition to the services offered in in Swedish in the capital region. It will also enhance cultural diversity.
This collaboration enables smooth transitions between education and working life for the students.
- There is a great need for professional staff in the capital region. This expands the possibilities for collaboration on integration in Swedish between the educational institutions and the labor market, says Laila Andersson, rector and CEO of Prakticum.
