Internationally educated nurses are a great asset for Finland. To ensure that they have the qualifications required and access to further education, the Department of Healthcare at Arcada University of Applied Sciences and the Filipino Nurses Association in the Nordic Region have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Arcada’s Department of Healthcare has many years of experience in educating nurses in English. Through the new collaboration the aim is to improve the integration of internationally educated nurses. This is done through providing training for them to gain the qualification of registered nurse. This will in turn further their opportunities to gain meaningful employment on the Finnish labour market.
–We have very good experiences of working with Filipino and other internationally trained nurses, hence collaborating with FiNAN is a natural next step in developing our education, says Pamela Gray, Degree programme director for the Nursing programme at Arcada.
The department of healthcare at Arcada has to date produced hundreds of foreign-born nursing graduates. Professionals who are globally competitive in the nursing workforce and are currently working either in Finnish healthcare facilities or abroad.
Through meaningful collaboration networks the nursing programme can expediate the entrance of internationally educated nurses to the workforce and allow them to smoothly integrate into Finnish society. The long-term goal is also to support new educational models aimed at internationally trained nurses that can be applied throughout the Nordics.
