Media Intelligence Laboratory
Background and goals
In today's digital age, the abundance of digital news media content presents both opportunities and challenges for society and businesses alike. The Media Intelligence Laboratory project aims to harness the power of free-to-use and paid web tools to automate content analysis of digital media. By doing so, this project intends to contribute to the betterment of society by generating valuable insights from digital content and aiding companies, public sector and non-governmental organizations in making informed decisions. Furthermore, a central goal of this project is to develop tools that Arcada students in media management and elsewhere can utilize for media analysis in their master’s degree education and thesis work especially.
Objectives and benefits
The primary objectives of the Media Intelligence Laboratory project are as follows:
a. To identify and evaluate appropriate free-to-use web and/or cost-efficient tools that can automate content analysis of digital media.
b. To develop a systematic methodology for utilizing these tools (or to generate more adequate tools) to conduct content analysis across various topics, benefiting both society and businesses.
c. To design user-friendly tools tailored for students in media management to engage in media analysis, thereby enhancing their analytical skills and knowledge.
d. To involve students in media management that plan to do their master’s thesis on media analysis and AI and Media and also to promote interdisciplinary collaboration between media management, big data analytics and Arcada tech Labs.
e. To develop the education of Media Management, to develop our competencies as educators, and to update the media management education into “the era of AI”.
Results
The anticipated outcomes of the Media Intelligence Laboratory project include:
• A curated list of free-to-use web tools for automating content analysis of digital media.
• A well-defined content analysis framework applicable to various topics and industries.
• Comprehensive insights into sentiment trends, prevalent themes, and keywords related to different subjects.
• User-friendly tools tailored for students in media management to engage in media analysis.
• Inclusion of media management students in the project and interdisciplinary collaboration between departments at Arcada (mostly between MA in Media Management and researchers and educators at Arcada Tech Labs.
• Collaboration with businesses, policymakers, researchers, and NGOs.
• Valuable insights for small businesses and entrepreneurs to enhance their marketing strategies, brand perception, and decision-making processes.
• A potential to create a training package in cutting edge media analysis that can be utilized also in Arcada further education
• A start for a sustainable environment for research and education providing a clear and understandable model and methodology for thesis work and research that can attract businesses, public agencies and NGOs as paying customers.
