AV UP - New Skills for the AV Industry
Background and goals
The AV industry (specifically film, TV and media production) is characterised by strong seasonality, particularly labour shortages for certain job descriptions, rapid development and relatively little cooperation between educational institutions and employers in the field. Recently, Business Finland, among others, has identified great growth potential, especially in international productions. The AV UP project aims to develop the sector's capacity for foresight in terms of training and financing models and cooperation between educational institutions and working life over a three-year period from 2024 to 2026, thus securing the conditions for growth.
Objectives and benefits
The aim of AV UP - New skills for the AV industry is to strengthen the skills, capacity and operating environment of the AV industry to meet growth needs and ensure the competitiveness of national and international productions in both domestic and international markets. The project enables developed national co-operation between educational institutions at different levels of education to identify needs and develop education in the field.
Arcada University of Applied Sciences and the Film and Media Education Programme act in the project as an expert and contact organisation for the Finnish-Swedish AV industry. The Finland-Swedish AV industry, and especially the film industry, has some special characteristics in relation to operators in the majority language. Arcada is responsible for the project's implementation and coordination of the project's concrete measures for the Swedish-speaking industry, such as the implementation of Swedish-language workshops and pilots, taking into account its specificities. Arcada has many years of experience and expertise in training in the field and recently there have been pilot investments in continuous learning for specific needs in the Swedish-speaking sector in Finland (e.g. project Fifi co-financed by Svenska Kulturfonden).
Results
The key result is a sustainable operating model that supports the competence and capacity development of the AV sector, engaging the key actors of the sector - educational institutions providing training, companies and relevant stakeholders - across the country. The working group consists of vocational schools and higher education institutions offering AV education in Finland
