Arcada Robot Films - Interdisciplinary collaboration of IT and Media through robot film productions: Quality enhancing and innovative work
Background and goals
The newly opened Human and AI interaction Hub at Arcada is one of Finland's largest laboratories for humanoid robots and serves as a hub for several interdisciplinary research projects. This research initiative highlights the potential for robots at Arcada to bridge the gap between technological advancements and societal needs.
Objectives and benefits
We aim to increase collaboration between Arcada's IT and Media educations through the production of robot films, with the goal of establishing dissemination and visibility for Arcada. By sharing these engaging and educational robot films with the public, we hope to not only entertain but also educate children and young people about the potential of AI and robotics.
Results
Through this initiative, students will be involved in the production process through the MEDA program, gaining hands-on experience with film production and robotics while applying theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting. After the end of production, these robot films will be made available under an open license, allowing anyone to access and reuse the content for educational or research purposes.
Societal impact
Our unique opportunity allows for an approach in directly capturing the robots themselves without the need for animation or advanced special effects through our laboratories. This allows us to present a nuanced representation of the possibilities and challenges associated with modern technology while also providing valuable insights.
Abstract
Arcada, known for its strong programs in social sciences, engineering, economics, and healthcare education, aims to expand its curriculum in information technology with a focus on robotics. Building on this foundation, we seek to bridge the gap between technological advancements and their communication by creating engaging media content that highlights the potential and limitations of robots.
