Despite the fact that 2020 was an exceptional year with a transition to distance learning during the ongoing pandemic, a record number of students graduated from Arcada during the year. A total of 507 students completed their studies.

This breaks the previous record from 2018 when 500 students graduated from Arcada. Of those who graduated in 2020, 445 graduated with a bachelor’s degree and 62 with a master's degree.

– Our students and teachers have shown proof of great adaptability and flexibility during a demanding year that has brought its challenges. We have focused on those who were in the final stages of their studies, and our counselling services have been successful. Some students have also found their way back to their studies when they got the opportunity to study online, says Carl-Johan Rosenbröijer, Vice Rector for education.

Of the graduates, 71 were engineers (including both IT engineers and engineers in energy and materials technology), which is as many as the record year 2015. The result is gratifying considering that Arcada has now started to develop and profile the engineering programmes in a new way.

- The need for engineers in society is great and we are happy that so many have now completed their degrees. The new graduates can look forward to career security. The fact that the number of graduates at Arcada is steadily rising shows that we offer attractive degree programmes, invest in pedagogy and really work with the students in focus, says Rosenbröijer.

The graduates were celebrated at the end of January with a graduation ceremony which for the first time was arranged completely online. 119 of those who graduated in 2020 have a degree in health care, 126 in health and welfare, 49 completed a degree in culture and media, 59 in energy and materials technology and 154 students a degree in economics.
